PARAMUS, N.J. -- An SUV slammed head-on into a utility pole on northbound Route 17 in Paramus early Wednesday evening, sending the driver to the hospital and a transformer into a nearby parking lot.

An ambulance took the driver to Hackensack University Medical Center with undetermined injuries. A paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital assisted Paramus EMTs with patient care.A PSE&G crew responded, as did Paramus police and firefighters.
